Oragutan Film Development

I've been researching and designing orangutans for a short I'm thinking of doing. I got super inspired from the Orangutans at the LA Zoo, especially Bruno and Berani. I wanted to really animate these orangutans as orangutans and not humans with animal suits on. So, I've been spending a lot of time observing and researching. Though, I stopped in the middle of development (spending time to work on CG animation, which I am throughly enjoying actually). Here is a collage of some of the work I've been doing for it.

Christmas Gifts

So, Christmas is here, which means a lot of friends, family, food, gift receiving and, of course, gift giving. For the monetarily challenged this could "present" (get it) a problem. Luckily, for us artistic folk, we have the option of creating our own gifts; in the hopes that the gift receiver will understand that a gift that was made is more meaningful than a gift that was bought. At least, that is my excuse and I'm sticking with it!

So, here are drawings I did. One, for my roommate, Ben Adams, and his girlfriend, Alyssa. We went all out in decorating our place and the drawing is inspired by what our patio looks like at night.
The other, is for Alyssa's friend, Spencer, who has now become my friend, Spencer. We watched Jurassic Park together and discovered one of her dreams in life is to have her very own baby velociraptor.

Here are just some of the multitude of sketches I've done throughout the years. I have to say I have a real affinity to sketching. My dream job would be to travel all around the world just sketching people and all the unique things I come across. It's like an imprint of my memory. When I look back at old sketches, memories of that time flood in as fresh as if I had just experienced them. Bottom line, SKETCH!

Now that I have graduated from Calarts, I guess its time to finally post some of the work I've done throughout the years.

I must say Calarts has been an amazing journey, with ups and downs, twist and turns, and blood and tears; with a whole lot of fun mixed in. It's pretty much a recipe that makes up a great experience and a fairly overwhelmed graduate. But, as the dust is settling, I'm starting to sense how important this experience will be for me.

Playboy Jazz Festival

Yesterday was Father's Day and as a gift my family and I took my Dad out to the Playboy Jazz Festival! It was a perfect sunny day with a slight ocean breeze that would come in just when it was getting too hot. Jazz is a very interesting type of music. I never really listen to it till maybe just in the few past months. I don't even think I really actually listen to it, more I just enjoy hearing it. To me it has this soothing, nostalgic presence to it, which most likely comes from hearing it while driving in the car with my Dad when I was younger. Or hearing jazz being played in the background of my grandparents house when my family would come visit. And now I guess I can also include spending a whole Sunday with my family watching master musicians celebrating their love of music.

My Very First Post!

I never thought I would be doing this, but here it is, my blog! (I don't even know who I'm talking to right now.)
The Duze, Sturges, and I decided we would have some fun and keep our artistic minds active this summer by going out every week to sketch and also to assign each other a character design assignment. Well we weren't sure what we should assign ourselves so we went ahead and mimicked the much acclaimed "Chades Challenge", choosing a noun plus verb or adjective. So here are my "Pompous Old Men".
